In every yin, there’s a yang. Even television is not an exemption.
Through the years, we have been privileged enough to witness the greatest rivalries that pushed us to watch more TV, take the battle to the internet and, in rare funny cases, in our personal lives.
Here are the legendary ones. The rivalries that will echo through eternity.
10. Homer Simpson vs. Ned Flanders
Many would claim that this is not rivalry but more a case of one-sided friendship or Homer being perpetually annoyed at Ned. However, the mere fact that Ned manages to make Homer’s perfect little life a living hell already shows how one person can have so much effect on your to the point suicide.
9. Michael Scofield vs. Alex Mahone
I think their rivalry had so big of a potential but the characters didn’t evolve the right way. The ending of the series was rushed and we really didn’t see how the weakness of one, became the strength of the other.
They are on this list because they demonstrated how someone can fight a guy who is intellectually superior.
8. Edie vs. Susan
I don’t understand why women have an instant rivalry against other women. They compete on everything, hair, boyfriends, waistlines, shoes, bags…
7. Serena van der Woodsen vs. Blair Waldorf
They popularized the concept of frienemies.
As I’ve said, women have an instant rivalry against other women. These two are the paragon of the silent version of that. They are friends but there is always the underlying feeling of one thinking she’s better than the other.
6. Sue Sylvester vs. Mr. Schuester
Will Schuester seemed to have won his ongoing rivalry with Sue Sylvester but this is Sue we are talking about. It’s not over ’till the fat lady sings.
These two represents the age-old battle of the sports and arts. A rivalry that has caused people to kill themselves, beat other people and, yes, kill other people.
5. Jerry Seinfeld vs Newman
The most entertaining rivalry on this list.
You all have to admit, you all would want a Newman in your life. Someone whose life you can make a living hell and insult everyday without him knowing about it.
4. Jack Shephard vs. John Locke Sawyer vs. Jack vs. Locke vs. Ben
There’s so much hatred on the “Lost” island its difficult to pick just one rivalry.
These guys, though, seem to be the alpha males.
3. McGyver vs Murdoc
How can I leave them out?
The funny thing is that Murdoc is not half the genius that McGyver is but he is brilliant at reading behavioral patterns that allowed him to stay two steps ahead of McGyver. Even before McGyver thinks of it, Murdoc already blocked it.
2. Alexis vs. Krystle
Catfight at its finest!
1. Brenda vs Kelly
Before Blaire and Serena of Gossip Girl, there was Brenda and Kelly.
Kelly is the all American city girl who was born and raised in California. Considered the princess of the school and the most beautiful blonde and fashion icon.
Brenda was a country girl and a newbie in school. Belonging to a middle class family, she didn’t have half of what Kelly had but was determined to make it in the big city.
They forged a friendship but found themselves wanting and going for the same thing including a guy.
