This is Bruce’s
first one-man show. It spans 23 acres and consists of eight large
outdoor installations, two installations within the 4-acre Grand
Conservatory, and a collection of illuminated sculptures in the Music
Room.
The unmatched beauty of Longwood Gardens has inspired Bruce in so many ways.
Often Bruce’s large-scale installations reflect moments of distant memory, when light has been the catalyst of change, or altered his mood profoundly. Avoiding wastefulness, he often attempts the creation of magical beauty with humble, or discarded materials.
Munro’s aim is to pass on a positive energy; nothing more intellectual than that. Making visitors feel the warm glow of a smile is his great aim and satisfaction.
Light is his passion, his subject, and his material. “I always carry a sketchbook and everything that touches my life goes into it. Making sculptures and lights from these jottings is what I do, and my only ambition is to do more!”
Bruce Munro is an installation artist working in light. The small team of lighting designers working at his studio also create architectural lighting schemes for private residences, hotels, restaurants and other commercial spaces. These schemes often require spectacular feature lights such as contemporary chandeliers, wall lights or sculptures, and these are designed by Bruce Munro himself to complement the scheme.
So it’s a three-part company: we have an enduring passion for light in all it’s forms. We approach the creation of lighting plans for interiors and gardens as an art in itself. Likewise, we’re fervent about creating bespoke luminaires, chandeliers and sculptures. But our large scale installations are our heart and soul, and best express what we love about light.
“Fast becoming known for his large-scale and inspired lighting installations…lighting schemes and bespoke pieces for private clients are approached in very much the same way.”
