The city of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia has a marvelous skyscraper called Al Mamlka Tower, also known as Kingdom Centre for the rest of the world. It`s a famous tower since it is the second tallest skyscraper in Saudi Arabia, with a height of 302.3 m (992 ft). It occupies the third place as the tallest building to have a hole in the world (the first positions being occupies by Shanghai World Financial Center and Tuntex Sky Tower).
The tower has 41 floors and 2 basement levels. The owner of Al-Mamlka is the Prince Al-Wleed bin Talal, who is part of the Saudi royal family. The tower functions as the headquarters of Kingdom Holding Company. The project costs were around the sum of US$ 400 million and Saudi Arabian Al-Seif and The Italian Impregilo took the contract.
The skyscraper won the 2002 Emporis Skyscraper Award, where it was selected as the “Best skyscraper of the world for design”. The tower is situated between King Fahd Road and Olaya Road,on Al-Urubah Road, part of the district that is currently being developed called Olaya in Riyadh.
The eastern tube has a five-level shopping center that won a major design award too, and the huge opening turns to red when workers fill it and the colour shade changes during the month. The skyscraper also features a luxurious hotel too,the Four Seasons Hotel Riyadh, yet another addition to the tower, apart from the shopping mall, offices and apartments.
The top deck is a public observation deck from which anyone could enjoy spectacular views of the Riyadh skyline. There is another skyscraper in the proximity called the Al Faisaliyah Center that finds itself in a direct axis with the Al-Mamlka Tower.
