After launching the project one year ago, now Fiat Brazil has released the details of its first ever crowdsourced car concept, Fiat Mio. It will be unveiled at the International Automobile Fair in Sao Paulo during October. The two-seater vehicle has been rendered at the Fiat Style Center and has big molded windscreen that wraps around the side of the vehicle.
The design, apart from the Fiat design team, has been crafted from the 11,000 ideas submitted by almost 17,000 members of the community. Fiat Mio falls under the Creative Commons License, allowing participants to own their contributions, but for the community to distribute, modify and share their ideas.
Talking about Fiat Mio, many of the car’s details are undecided yet and many of the car’s components under discussion include propulsion method – certainly electric but which type of engine – to power the car, the infotainment system, gadget integration, navigational tools, the final materials used in the body, driving aids and onboard biometry.
On the other, some of the design elements have been narrowed down to a few options, such as the mechanism for the doors and there are three options proposed: conventional method of having the hinge towards the front of the car; inverse opening, and each door open in a different direction.
There are so many things yet to decide and the countdown has already begun as the site has only 71 days left for the Automobile Show. With lot more remaining incomplete, it remains to be seen whether or not this crowd-sourced approach to car design is an idea that will spread.
